Certificate Of Merit
In Barbara’s studio students have the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Certificate of Merit Program administered by the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC). The Certificate of Merit Program (CM) is designed to start when a student is in second grade and continues through the senior year of high school. Each year a student participates at the level determined by Barbara in concert with a students’ current level of ability. Barbara prepares students to pass a leveled evaluation of performance and theory criteria to receive their Certificate for the level of study from the MTAC. Barbara’s students have been successfully completing the CM program for the past 12 years.

Barbara with Senior Medal Recipients
If students participate in the Certificate of Merit program during three out of four years of high school, and achieve a “Level Seven” rating, students are awarded a Senior Medallion by the State MTAC. Senior Medallions recognize outstanding achievements in the study of a musical instrument such as piano.
Barnes and Noble Performance
It is fun for students to share their music. Barnes and Noble Store offers a yearly opportunity for piano students to play for the public at their location on Lone Tree Way.
Practice Contest Winners
It is fun for students to be rewarded for their accomplishments. To this goal, a prize basket is available for students who meet their practice goals, tracking their accomplishments on a sticker chart, to select a prize once a month. Younger students particularly enjoy the practice rewards. A small prize is awarded to the students who collect the most stickers at the end of the year.
Practice Contest Winner
Piano study with Barbara prepares students for the transition to college auditions and study in the field of music and piano performance. Tim Combs, student of Barbara’s since the age of 9 and Music Major at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, was awarded a Delta Branch MTAC scholarship in the spring of 2014 to continue his study of music. He also currently serves as a paid student accompanist for the Music Department at Los Medanos. Austin Kalinowski, who started as a beginner with Barbara, and prepared for college music auditions with Barbara, is currently studying as a Music Major at BYU Idaho. Both Tim and Austin received Senior Medallions through the Certificate of Merit program while a part of the Schnieder Studio.
June Recital 2012
Students are presented in recital twice a year. The opportunity to perform music live for parents, friends and peers helps students gain confidence through accomplishments on the piano. Students are prepared for playing with music and by memory, both as soloists and as part of ensembles. The June recital is an opportunity where students are encouraged to memorize a classical piece of music rounding out their exposure to all aspects of piano playing. Yearly awards are given for goal achievement at the June recital.
December Recital 2013
The December recital welcomes classical and Christmas repertoire, as well as other contemporary selections students may be interested in.
Young Artist Competition Winner
My students have the opportunity to compete in the local Young Artist Competition sponsored by the Delta Branch of the Music Teachers’ Association of California. Pictured is Cole Preciado who won the Division One section of the competition in 2011 and has studied piano with me since he was five years old.
Ensemble playing develops camaraderie, rhythm skills, and the ability to perform music with others. I offer my students yearly opportunities to play music with peers who are a similar age and skill level.
